The nominees for the 72nd annual Golden Globes, announced Thursday, included plenty of Maryland connections -- much as Wednesday's Screen Actors Guild nominees did. Here's a a roundup:
Columbia native Edward Norton was nominated for best supporting actor for his role in "Birdman." "Birdman" was one of the strongest contenders of the day, scoring nods for best comedy or musical; best actor, comedy or musical, for Michael Keaton; best supporting actress, comedy or musical, for Emma Stone; best director, for Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu; best score; and best screenplay, by Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo.
Another Norton project, "The Grand Budapest Hotel," also fared well, with nominations for best comedy or musical; best director, for Wes Anderson; and best screenplay, by Anderson.
"House of Cards," the Netflix series filmed in Baltimore City, Harford County and other Central Maryland sites, represented well, with nominations for best TV drama; best actor, drama, for Kevin Spacey; and best actress, drama, for Robin Wright, who won last year.
The HBO series "Veep," filmed on a Howard County soundstage and other regional sites, was not nominated for best TV comedy, but star Julia Louis-Dreyfus was nominated for best actress, comedy.
"Wire" alum Dominic West is competing with Spacey in the best actor, TV drama, category, for his role on the Showtime series "The Affair."
Annapolis native Robert Duvall's work in the film "The Judge" earned a nomination for best supporting actor.
Onetime Cumberlander William H. Macy (yes, we'll claim him, too) is competing in the best actor, TV comedy, category for his role in Showtime's "Shameless."
