Maya Rudolph to party with Tina Fey, Amy Poehler in 'The Nest'

Maya Rudolph will reunite with 'SNL' alums Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on 'The Nest'

Maya Rudolph just got an invite to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's house party — but don't tell Mom and Dad.

The "Bridesmaids" actress has joined the cast of Fey and Poehler's upcoming Universal comedy "The Nest," about two adult sisters who decide to throw one last rager at their childhood home before their parents sell the place, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Rudolph, who worked with Fey and Poehler on "Saturday Night Live" for several years, will play a childhood friend of the duo. The cast also includes James Brolin and Ike Barinholtz.

Jason Moore ("Pitch Perfect") is directing "The Nest," which is slated for release Dec. 18, 2015. Paula Pell, another "SNL" alum, wrote the script.

It's been a good week for the "Bridesmaids" gang, with writers Kristen Wiig (who also starred) and Annie Mumolo unveiling plans for their own new buddy comedy, over at TriStar. The two will write, produce and star in the yet-untitled movie, and Wiig will make her directorial debut.

Against the backdrop of the testosterone-fueled summer movie season, the fact that movies like "The Nest" and the Wiig-Mumolo project are moving forward comes as welcome news. At the same time, we're reminded that women are still very much a rare species behind the camera, even as movies like "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat" have increasingly shown that women can be forces in front of it.
