TV ratings: ABC's 'Modern Family' falls; 'Nashville' rises; CBS wins

ABC's multi-Emmy-winning comedy "Modern Family" fell to its lowest rating in the key 18-49 age demographic since 2009, according to early numbers from Nielsen. CBS won Wednesday night in the demographic and in total viewership, with "Criminal Minds" growing to its largest audience this season.
"Modern Family" drew a 3.3 in the advertiser-coveted demographic Wednesday night, down 13% from last week, but it was still the night's best-rated show in the category. It drew 10 million viewers overall.
Elsewhere on ABC, "The Middle" fell 8% to a 2.2 in the 18-49 demo, followed by "Back in the Game," which dropped 11% to a 1.6. "Super Fun Night," Rebel Wilson's freshman comedy, was down a bit to a 1.9. However, "Nashville" ended ABC's prime-time lineup by growing week-to-week for the second time in a row, this time up 7% to a 1.6, tying its highest rating in seven weeks.
With "Criminal Minds" drawing 12.3 million viewers, CBS had the biggest audience of the night, attracting an average of 11.1 million people from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. CBS also won among young adults with a 2.4 rating, coming in ahead of ABC's 2.0. "Criminal Minds" ticked up in 18-49, to a 2.8.
"Survivor" led off CBS' lineup by drawing a 2.4 in 18-49 (down 4% week-to-week) and 10.1 million viewers, and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" grew its rating 11% to a 2.1 and brought in 11 million people.
On NBC, "Revolution's" midseason finale was down a tenth of a point from last week's 1.5, while its average audience of 5.24 million was its best in five weeks. "Law & Order: SVU" and "Dateline NBC" both matched their prior-week ratings (1.6 and 1.1, respectively).
Fox had only "The X Factor," which garnered a 1.6 (down 6%) and 5.5 million viewers.
CW's comic book-based "Arrow" dropped to a 0.9 from last week's 1.2 in 18-49, while "The Tomorrow People" was flat versus last Wednesday's 0.6.
