Vida Taco Bar opened its first Baltimore location Friday.
The restaurant is located below the 1405 Point apartment building that opened recently in Harbor Point. This is the restaurant’s third expansion after the original Annapolis location opened in 2014 and one in Severna Park followed in 2017.
The owners hope the Baltimore spot will cater to the lunch crowd from nearby office buildings. Vida Taco Bar will also stay open until midnight on the weekends.
“Baltimore is Charm City and we want to be a part of the charm,” said John Miller, one of three co-owners. “We want to help the city grow and give it more food options.”
Keeping with other locations, the restaurant’s menu is divided between traditional Latin American street tacos and modern takes that combine global flavors on a tortilla. Crowd favorites include a shrimp Thai basil taco and a pork belly variety with a Korean pickled kimchi.
Diners can choose between corn and flour tortillas or bibb lettuce. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are also available. Tacos are sold a la carte, with the average cost of a taco ranging from $3.50 to $4.50.
Vida Taco Bar sources all ingredients within 100 miles of Baltimore, Miller said.
“Baltimore has a good local food dining scene,” Miller said. “We want to be a part of that and put our own take on it.”
Miller said the original concept for the restaurant was a focus on specialty tacos and margaritas. Margarita mix is made in-house daily and served at the 10-seat bar along with beer, wine and more than 30 varieties of tequila.
The interior takes inspiration from Mexico’s Day of the Dead along with modern culture. Reclaimed Baltimore brick and stainless steel combine for an old/new effect in the kitchen and bar.
The restaurant has 96 seats indoors and plans to add more outside once nearby construction has finished.
Vida Taco Bar is located at 1405 Point St. in Harbor Point. Hours are Monday-Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight.
