Diablo Doughnuts, the Fells Point shop known for inventive doughnut flavors such as cinnamon toast crunch and “unicorn farts,” is moving across the harbor.
The 2-year-old shop plans to relocate to Federal Hill in January. Diablo Doughnuts will take over the storefront that previously housed Felici Cafe at 1035 Light St., Diablo owner Michael Roslan said.
The space is about twice as large as Diablo Doughnuts’ current digs, which it shares with the pizzeria Hot Tomatoes. The larger kitchen and dedicated space at the new Light Street space will allow Diablo Doughnuts to expand its menu and hours, Roslan said.
“It’s one of those things we thought about and thought about. We just needed more space, truthfully,” Roslan said. “We definitely outgrew it a long time ago.”
Roslan said he found few available or affordable spaces in Fells Point, and turned his search to Federal Hill.
“A lot of our families were coming from Fed Hill,” Roslan said.
When Diablo Doughnuts got its start at farmers’ markets and events in 2013, the shop would produce about 20 dozen doughnuts per day. The Fells Point shop now makes 150 dozen a day on weekends.
Its staff has grown to six employees, and Roslan said he plans to expand it further in the new shop.
Diablo Doughnuts has a partnership with Bmore Licks, the new ice cream shop near Patterson Park, where it sells doughnuts on weekends.
Diablo Doughnuts is currently closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Roslan plans to open seven days a week in the new shop.
It’s not the only new doughnut shop coming to Federal Hill — another, Sundays is opening in Cross Street Market.
