A new cafe, Tea House Inc., opened Wednesday morning in the Read Street space in Mount Vernon that was the longtime home of Picadelli's II, a breakfast and lunch spot.
The partners in Tea House are John Johnson, a familiar face from his days as a manager at Mount Vernon Stable, and Jimmie R. Ware, who started Tea House as a mail-order company for tea and tea products. Wise operated a retail stall in the Pennsylvania Dutch Market in Cockeysville for 18 months until this spring.
"I wanted to open a full-scale restaurant," Ware said. "And I found this space in Mount Vernon."
Tea House Inc. Cafe operates as both as a cafe and retail shop for loose teas and tea accessories. The cafe menu features "tea house" sandwiches, including smoked salmon, pork tenderloin, smoked turkey and chicken salad. The cafe is a counter-service operation with limited seating.
Ware said he plans to start holding events like afternoon tea at the cafe in a few months.
The cafe is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The cafe is at 202 W. Read St. For more information, call 410-752-4303.
