Cate Blanchett is heading to Broadway

Andrew Upton's adaptation of Anton Chekhov's "Platonov" is heading to Broadway, and Cate Blanchett is along for the ride.

Following a sold-out and well-received engagement in Sydney, Australia last August, the Broadway production of "The Present" will open for a limited run in Winter 2016. John Crowley will direct.

Blanchett and Richard Roxburgh, both part of the Sydney Theatre Company cast, will transfer with the production and make their Broadway debuts. The complete cast has yet to be announced.

Upton's adaptation transports Chekhov's first drama to mid-1990s Russia on the birthday of the widow Anna Petrovna, the role in which Blanchett stars.

The production brings together longtime collaborators Upton and Blanchett, who served as co-artistic directors of Sydney Theatre Company from 2008-2012. Blanchett and Roxburgh last appeared together on a New York stage in Upton's "Uncle Vanya" adaptation in 2012.
