Like/Dislike with James Gummer of the Maryland Renaissance Festival

James Gummer is no ordinary drummer.
Not only does he perform in an all- percussion show called the Drum Runners, he also will be playing for the jousts and the chess game at this year's Maryland Renaissance Festival, opening Saturday and running through Oct. 19 in Crownsville.
"I like working for the Renaissance Festival because there are so many great performers there," said Gummer, 41. "And I feel like I've grown a lot from being around them."
Gummer, a resident of Perry Hall, has been participating in the festival for 17 years and has no intention of stopping any time soon.
Before Gummer's performances he chatted with us about his favorite Renaissance Festival meal, the new "Star Wars" and more.
Worst pet peeve? Drivers who don't use turn signals; every car has one. You're not fooling anyone.
What songs are you loving right now? I'm going through an Iron Maiden phase.
Last concert/gig you went to? I watched my drum students perform at Brown's Orchards in Pennsylvania!
Your worst habit? I don't have any bad habits. I'm kidding. I'm not so good at answering the phone and it takes me a while (forever) to check voicemails. I really do prefer texts or emails, because usually I can get back much more quickly.
Trend that has exceeded its natural lifespan? Duckface.
Best advice you ever got? Be sure to trim your eyebrows.
Favorite event at the Renaissance Festival? There's so many great things there that it's hard to pick a favorite. I like the stage shows and plays because I'm fascinated by how actors do their thing. Also, I never miss Hilby, the Skinny German Juggle Boy.
Best Renaissance Festival meal? I suggest the veggie wrap!
Your favorite thing about Baltimore? I like that we have all four seasons, and I liked the snow last year.
