In 2013, Baltimore schools received an historic infusion of funds for the purpose of renovating and strengthening our city's most neglected schools. (The photo here was taken on the day the Baltimore City school funding bill was signed into law.) This is important. It is unacceptable that our most vulnerable citizens, our young children living in under-resourced communities, should study and play in areas that tell them everything they need to know about how our society thinks about their future, without us having to say a word. This investment is a great first step. How we build upon this progress will determine whether this was an investment in bricks and mortar, or the holistic development of all of our children. Baltimore native Wes Moore, 35, spent years away from his hometown -- serving in the Army, writing a best-selling book ("The Other Wes Moore") and producing and hosting for television. Last October, he moved back home. And in his first full year back in Baltimore, the Johns Hopkins graduate has spent time writing, volunteering and running his Omari Productions company. He's also spent time seeing a lot of promising developments in the city he holds dear. We asked Moore to run down 10 moments in Baltimore in 2013 that made him proud -- and excited about the future.
