Small Bites: The Old Bay beer from Flying Dog gets its own party

Small Bites is a round-up of news and tidbits from Baltimore's dining scene

The fun never stops for Dead Rise Old Bay summer ale, the mammoth hit from Flying Dog Brewery.

On July 31, Wit & Wisdom is hosting a Dead Rise party on its waterside patio to celebrate the release of the "The Dead Rise Old Bay Cookbook," which features recipes from the likes of Bryan Voltaggio, Spike Gjerde and Wit & Wisdom's own Zach Mills-- including grilled oysters with peaches, crab macaroni and cheese, catfish tacos, and Old Bay peanut brittle ice cream.

The Wit & Wisdom party will feature Flying Dog brews paired with food prepared by Mills and Wit & Wisdom executive pastry chef, Dyan Ng.

The Flying Dog party is 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on July 31 at Wit & Wisdom, Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore, 200 International Drive. Tickets are $55 and include unlimited food and samples of Flying Dog Brewery beer. Ticket info is here.

• Mother's Grille is having a viewing party tonight for the Baltimore episode of Comedy Central's "Drunken History," which you can read all about over on the Z on TV blog.  Part of the episode, which features re-enactments of episodes from the lives of Edgar Allan Poe, Francis Scott Key and Abraham Lincoln -- as narrated by a very drunk person -- were taped at the Federal Hill gathering spot. The episode airs at 10 p.m.

• Speaking of TV, at 8 tonight NBC is premiering a cooking competition show called "Food Fighters," in which "talented home cooks take on the nation's top chefs hoping to win over a dinner party made up of people just like you." We mention it because Sarah Simington of Blue Moon Cafe is going to appear on an upcoming episode. On her Facebook page, Simington says that her "Food Fighters" appearance airs on Aug. 19.
