The Valley Inn is back in business

More than three years after its closing, the Valley Inn is back in business.

Now owned by Ted Bauer, the owner and operator of the Oregon Grille in Hunt Valley, the landmark on Falls Road just north of the beltway had its newly remodeled pub open for business last weekend. The pub is the first space to open under the Valley Inn’s new ownership, but there's more to come, including a separate raw bar area and a full-scale dining room.

For now, the pub appears to be operating on a part-time basis. Over the past few weeks, it has been open on Friday and Saturday nights only, and it is unclear when or if the pub will begin full-time operations.

The Valley Inn does not have a website, and the phone number listed on a pub receipt was not answered on Monday afternoon. A phone call to Bauer, asking for more information about the pub, was not returned.

Your best bet at this point is to drive there on a Friday and Saturday night and see for yourself. That’s what we did last Saturday.

The pub was at full capacity and the kitchen was in full operation. The opening menu at The Valley Inn includes oysters on the half shell, a 10-ounce Valley Burger, crab cakes, shrimp salad and roast beef sandwiches and a few full-size entrees like marinated tenderloin, grilled mahi mahi and crab imperial.

Known for its traditional menu of Maryland cuisine and genteel clientele, the Valley Inn closed in early 2011 after 88 years of operation under the Hatfield family. But the inn has been in operation, more or less continuously, since the mid 19th century.

The Valley Inn is located at 10501 Falls Road in Brooklandville.
