There will be lots of readings and panels and many jokes about "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" at this year's Baltimore Book Festival, which kicks off Friday.

But there are also a bunch of events for music lovers.

On Saturday, at 3:30 p.m.,  Jared Ball, a professor at Morgan State, will present a live edition of his "Freemix Radio: The Original Mixtape Radio Show" to promote his book, "I Mix What I Like: A Mixtape Manifesto," which was released this summer.

And, at 6 p.m., there will be a panel on gender, identity and music featuring Stephen Duncombe and Max Tremblay, the editors of the new book, "White Riot: Punk Rock and the Politics of Race," and also Sara Marcus, who's written "Girls to the Front: The true story of the Riot Grrrl Revolution."

 The two events are part of Red Emma's radical bookfair, now in its fourth year as part of the book festival.  Their tent,  located on the east side of the circle around the Washington Monument in Mt. Vernon, has events scheduled through Sunday. The full schedule of their events is here.

In honor of the riot grrrl panel, the Ottobar's hosting an after party that night starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

The book festival will also feature a music stage at the 600 block of North Charles Street that will have performances all three days of the festival starting at noon. The Crawdaddies and Annapolis' 8 Ohms are among the performers. A full line-up of festival events is here.
