Stewart accuses Musharraf of lying about bin Laden

On Monday, I conducted a very unscientific poll on this blog, asking readers if they believed Pakistani officials played a role in protecting bin Laden. More than 90 percent of respondents said they did think Pakistan helped the terrorist leader in some way.

Jon Stewart pressed this issue hard on Tuesday night's "The Daily Show," accusing former President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan of lying about his knowledge of bin Laden's whereabouts.

"When you say 'I don't know,' You knew!" Stewart said at one point.

The host then took issue with Musharraf's assertion that Pakistani special forces would not have hidden bin Laden in the compound where he was found, because such a move would have been too obvious.

"So your defense is basically the ISI is way too smart to put bin Laden in such an obvious place, but far too clueless to know he was there?" Stewart mocked. "... Smart enough not to do it. Dumb enough not to notice."
