The first lines on E Major’s new mixtape, E Major Is ... Better Than Yours, serve as a proper introduction for the unfamiliar: “I make you ask, ‘Who is it?’ / Proper white T and an Orioles fitted / 59/50, I put on for my city.” Since 2008, E Major has consistently supplied the area with free quality mixtapes, and his latest, Better Than Yours, is no exception, with its tightly packed rhymes and smooth beat selection. It’s all a part of E’s steady grind approach — with his growing catalog of solid tracks of introspection and chest-puffing, it’s only a matter of time before everyone else catches on.
For this edition of the Other Side of ... E talks Indian food, his falsetto and more.
Last movie I saw: I watch a lot of indie films. Last Netflix [movie] was “Jack Goes Boating.” In the theater was either “Win Win” or “Hanna.” Can't remember which was last.
Last album I loved: LCD Soundsystem’s This Is Happening
Last book I read: Ayn Rand’s “The Fountainhead.” I was intrigued since I’m pretty liberal and so many on the other end of the spectrum reference Rand as an inspiration.
Last TV show I obsessed over: The “Mildred Peirce” remake mini-series. But I was really disappointed by the ending. I won’t give it away. Still obsessing over “Mad Men.”
Last time I played Baltimore it was ... Last week at the Ottobar, opening for Skyzoo.
Last song I sang at karaoke: I think Prince’s “Kiss.” That was literally like nine years ago. My falsetto is mean.
Last concert I went to as a fan: I think it was Mos Def at Rams Head Live a while ago.
Last great Baltimore meal I ate: At my mom’s house! But as far as restaurants, my brother and I went to Indian Kitchen out in the county and the food was pretty good even if the atmosphere could use some work.
Last App I downloaded: I’m a pragmatist. I don’t download anything fun. I think the last app I downloaded was to find the closest gas station or something.
Last hidden treasure I found in Baltimore: I find stuff all the time at the vintage shops and thrift stores in and around Baltimore. I haven't had a lot of time to hit them like I used to, but I have found everything from watch bands to shades to hats. AS TOLD TO WESLEY CASE, B
