'Get More NYC' in winter and save on hotels and more

What's the deal: Visitors to New York City can save up to 25 percent off room rates or other value-added offers when staying during January and February. NYC & Company, the city's official tourism and marketing group, has special offers at nearly 100 hotels throughout New York districts, neighborhoods and boroughs.

What are the savings: Discounts vary. For example, The James New York is offering 20 percent off the best available rate when staying two or more nights. The Carlyle is offering the third night free. W Hotels of New York will offer visitors a winter getaway "W Play Experience" package, which includes two cocktails, complimentary daily parking and accommodations at the best available rate in a "Wonderful Room."

What's the catch: Some properties have blackout dates, mostly around Valentine's Day, or require reservations be made directly with the hotel. Some bookings may be nonrefundable. Also, most offers require a promo code. Savings are available for stays Jan.2-Feb. 28.

In addition to discounts on hotels, other offers are part of the "Get More NYC' campaign, including 2-for-1 Broadway tickets, flight deals and bonus reward points for American Express cardholders.
