Day Trip: Ghostly tours in St. Mary's County

'Spirits of Point Lookout' in St. Mary's County

What: Take a ghost tour of Point Lookout State Park, site of many legendary tragedies and hauntings, as you experience a historic and interactive presentation. Spirits of Point Lookout is not a " haunted house"-style event. Presentations are suitable for children, but the event does require a 50-minute, half-mile walk. The evening also includes music, food, games and more.

Where: Point Lookout State Park, 11175 Point Lookout Road, Scotland 20687

When: Oct. 29 and Oct. 30, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tour groups of 30 leave every 12 minutes.

How much: Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. Tickets not required for age 6 and under. Park admission is included in the price of the ticket. The event is sponsored by the Kiwanis of St. Mary's County and proceeds benefit Southern Maryland youth leadership programs and other services.

What's nearby: Historic St. Mary's City is also offering ghost tours on Halloween weekend. "Grave Matters" lets visitors experience life and death in 17th-century Maryland with moonlight walks along historic paths. Tours run every 15 minutes, from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for ages 12 and up and must be purchased in advance.Go to
