Chincoteague Island Oyster Festival

What: A celebration marking the arrival of oyster season with music, games and all-you-can-eat oysters, of course, prepared in a variety of ways, including on the half-shell, steamed and fried. Offerings also include fritters, clam chowder, steamed crabs, coleslaw, potato salad, hot dogs and more.

Where: Maddox Family Campground, 6742 Maddox Blvd., Chincoteague, Va. Parking is limited, but a free trolley is available for those who park at the Chincoteague Combined School on Main Street. No pets allowed at the festival.

When: Saturday, Oct. 9, noon-4 p.m.

How much: General admission is $35. Children under 5 are free. Since the event does sell out, tickets may not be available at the gate. Purchase tickets in advance with a credit card online or by phone.
