Bethany Beach Independence Day Celebration and Parade
Where: The parade is assembled on the grounds of St. Ann's Church at 211 N. Pennsylvania Ave. It heads south on Pennsylvania Avenue, turns left on Cedarwood Street and then left on Atlantic Avenue and left on Oceanview Parkway.
When: July 5, 12 p.m.
What: Marching bands, decorated floats, a pie-eating contest and horseshoe contest are all part of this annual event in Bethany Beach. This year's parade theme is the Declaration of Independence. Day-of-parade registration begins at 9 a.m. Children and adults can participate in the blueberry pie-eating contest, sponsored by Ruthie's Bethany Bakery (302-539-1119).

What's nearby: Bethany Beach is home to a free beach, as well as a boardwalk for leisurely strolls, and dining. Some summer evenings feature live entertainment.
