Popular preschool television characters featured in film at National Aquarium

Dora the Explorer, an animated, 7-year-old expeditionist whose backpacking adventures have made her a darling among preschool youngsters, is currently starring at Baltimore's National Aquarium.

The Nick Jr. children's television network character teams up with cousin Diego in the film "Dora & Diego's 4-D Adventure: Catch that Robot Butterfly!" at the aquarium's 4-D Immersion Theater. The film is scheduled to be shown all month. Daily shows began this week and a Diego costumed character will make a special appearance at the aquarium Saturday and Sunday.

In the film, Dora and Diego team up to capture an out-of-control Robot Butterfly created by Dora's masked antagonist, Swiper the Fox.

Dora the Explorer is the lead character of the Nick Jr. television series of the same name. The show celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.

Diego is the lead character in the series, "Go, Diego, Go!" According to Nickelodeon, the sister network from which Nick. Jr. spun off, "Go, Diego, Go!" is the top preschool program on television. Dora the Explorer is ranked third, the cable TV network says.

While most youngsters are accustomed to watching Dora shows on TV and video, the film is set in "4-D," which means it offers a 3-D picture and is shown in a theater with sensory devices. Audiences not only see images that appear to protrude from the screen, but they experience effects such as mist, snow, wind and bubbles.
