Hall and Oates see a resurgence

Nowadays, when you hear a Hall and Oates fan bellowing, "Sara Smiiiiiiiiiiiile," you might need to do a double take.

Though the R&B duo Daryl Hall and John Oates had their heyday in the 1970s and 1980s, their following now extends to music lovers who weren't even born when they penned such tunes as the 1975 hit, "Sara Smile."

Bolstered by their Internet presence and newfound interest among young artists, the Philadelphia-area soul group has seen a resurgence that has helped make it one of music's most enduring over the last 40 years.

Surely you'll see a mix of fans young and old when Hall and Oates performs at Pier Six Pavilion on Sunday, as part of the duo's "Do What You Want, Be What You Are 2010 Tour."

The nationwide tour comes on the heels of the group's four-CD box set, "Do What You Want, Be What You Are: The Music of Daryl Hall and John Oates," which includes chart-topping hits, live performances and 16 previously unreleased tracks.

"On this tour, fans can expect us to play the hits, but we've also added songs from the, 'Do What You Want Be What You Are' box set, which is truly a reflection of our career," said Hall, who has made inroads among online faithful with his Internet Webcast, "Live From Daryl's House With Daryl Hall."

"We were 100 percent involved in the creative process of the set," Hall added. "We assembled the entire track listing, which includes some songs that people might not be as familiar with as the others, but we're trying to familiarize them. And since we're very pleased with the way the box set came out, we are going to showcase significant parts of it for the audience."

Hall and Oates performs 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Pier Six Pavilion,731 Eastern Ave. Tickets are $30-$75. Call 410-783-4189 or go to piersixpavilion.com.
