Maryland Day Celebration: If you go

If you go Maryland Day events run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Historic St. Mary's City. Admission is free. Call 240-895-4990 or go to stmaryscity.org.

Getting there Driving: Follow Interstate 97 South toward the Bay Bridge until it ends at U.S. 50 and 301. Follow U.S. 301 south toward Richmond, Va.. Take exit for Route 4 south toward Prince Frederick. Continue on to Solomons Island; continue across large bridge over the Patuxent River, to traffic light at Routes 4 and 235. To avoid congestion at Lexington Park, continue on Route 4 for 8 1/2 miles until it ends at Route 5. Turn left onto Route 5 and travel south about 14 miles. You will see a sign welcoming you to St. Mary's City then the St. Mary's River on the right as you enter the St. Mary's College of Maryland campus.

Dining/lodging: The Brome-Howard Inn is on museum grounds. Bed-and-breakfast lodging is available, as is dining. Call 301-866-0656.

Other attractions: Trinity Church is just off the museum grounds. Its cemetery is the original location of the Maryland State House and markers have been set up to show where the building stood.
