The Cat's Eye Pub isn't the only Baltimore bar known for its lineup of local bands.

With the recent passage of the live entertainment bill, chances are we'll start to see more bars, coffee shops and clubs with live music pop up in the next year or two.

Until then, here are three Baltimore bars and restaurants with regular live music.

Joe Squared, 133 W. North Ave., 410-545-0444, joesquared.com. This pizza bar also serves up a melting pot of live music, including traditional New Orleans swing bands, folk artists and experimental beatboxers. Most of the acts are local or regional, but Joe Squared does get the occasional nationally touring band - and rarely, if ever, charges a cover. The stage is small, and there is hardly any separation from it and the dining area, for better or worse.

Bertha's, 734 S. Broadway, 410-327-5795, berthas.com. A longtime holdout for live acoustic jazz and blues, Bertha's brings in exceptionally talented house bands on a weekly basis. In lieu of a cover charge, Bertha's tacks a quarter or two onto every drink sold on performance nights and gives the money to the bands.

Golden West Cafe in Hampden, 1105 W. 36th St., 410-889-8891, goldenwestcafe.com. By day, Golden West is a charming restaurant, catering to tourists, neighborhood residents and hipsters. By night, it morphs into a live music and performance space, with shows from local comedians and experimental groups. It's a fun, quirky place to see live music.
