‘African American Pioneers in Aviation' at the Smithsonian
Where: National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, 14390 Air & Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly, Va.
When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 27
What: The Black History Month event is part of the "Heritage Family Day" series, a program celebrating ethnic and cultural diversity in aviation and space history.
Parents and children have the opportunity to meet African-American role models, ranging from local Tuskegee Airmen to scientists.
The day also includes hands-on activities, book signings and appearances by current scientists, pilots and engineers in aerospace.
How much: Free admission. Parking is $15.
What's nearby: The Udvar-Hazy Center has more than 100 aircraft on display, including a Concorde supersonic jet and the Space Shuttle Enterprise.
