Notre Dame

Best hidden gem near school French toast is one of my favorite foods, and Miss Shirley's has a bunch of different flavors -- even pumpkin stuffed French toast. This place is delicious and great when you need a break from school. However, they only have daytime hours, so if you want to eat here you have to go between classes. It's totally worth it. Favorite on-campus place to study Honors students get to study in the Elizabeth Morrissy Honors House, which has candy and soda -- great when I need some extra sugar and caffeine for class. Best school event The accepted student overnight: Each student is placed with a host, who helps answer questions and makes the student feel welcome. We head to the Inner Harbor for a scavenger hunt and have dinner at The Rusty Scupper. The community atmosphere I felt during this event was one of the main reasons I chose to attend Notre Dame. Best off-campus event This past summer, I went to Hon Fest with one of my sorority sisters. It was exciting to see all of the people dressed up in funky glasses, jewelry, and beehive wigs. What to do on the weekend I like to take day trips to the Inner Harbor for various things like concerts at Pier Six Pavilion, shopping, eating at local restaurants, and enjoying a walk around the harbor. Best public transportation The College Town Shuttle allows students to travels to various college campuses in the Baltimore area. It also travels to places like Towson Town Center for those who love to shop. Must-take class at Notre Dame Growing Up in Literature has been my favorite class at Notre Dame so far. We read various books regarding the lives of children while they were growing up. I typically do not like English and literature courses, but I loved this one. What I wish someone had told me when I was a freshman You will have to pull all-nighters sometimes whether you like it or not. Be prepared to write a million papers. Take time for yourself and do not become consumed with school or you will become extremely stressed. --By Chelsea Dickerson, senior, elementary/special education major
