Hannah Benbow has discovered the perfect venue to showcase her artwork: this weekend's Baltimore Comic-Con.
Benbow, 24, who lives in Washington, works as an animator for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, a nonprofit organization. Earlier this year, Benbow shared a table with a fellow artist in Awesome Con, a D.C. comic convention.
This experience led her to seek out a table at Baltimore Comic-Con, which runs Sept. 5-7 at the Baltimore Convention Center (more info: baltimorecomiccon.com).
She will be selling her collection of superhero cats: Bat Cat, Captain Cat, Spider Cat and other original characters.
Before the convention, Benbow chatted with us about Netflix binge watching, fantasy worlds and more.
Last movies you liked/disliked? Liked: "Frozen." I watch it over and over and over. Disliked: "How To Train Your Dragon 2." It was OK, but not as good as the first one.
TV show you can't get enough of? "Law and Order: SVU." Good guys catching bad guy + endless seasons = a recipe for Netflix binge watching.
Favorite and least favorite fashion statement? Dresses with pockets are probably my favorite. It makes dresses more practical! Least favorite: Crocs with socks. Are you going [for[ waterproof or comfort?
Best advice you ever got? Do what you love. My parents have always been very supportive of my art career and I can't imagine doing anything other than art.
Favorite art museum in Baltimore?American Visionary Art Museum. They always have such cool exhibits. You're always going to see something different.
Advice you would give to a Comic-Con newbie? Look up tips online for first-timers. I learned a lot things just by researching beforehand. Specifically, bring snacks and a cushion for your seat. Convention food is usually expensive and limited, and sitting on folding chairs for the whole day is quite uncomfortable.
Favorite comic? Right now I really love reading "Ava's Demon." It's an online comic about a fantasy world where your inner demons talk to you. It has a great storyline and characters.
Your favorite thing about Baltimore? Federal Hill. You can see the whole harbor. It's such an awesome way to see Baltimore.
