Rick Adist shares the pain felt by Baltimoreans still without power days after Hurricane Irene left the area. Tonight, he's throwing a party to help alleviate it, maybe just a little.

Adist, minister at the University Parkway Church of Christ, will be hosting a "Tired of the Dark" party at the Baltimore church Wednesday evening. There will be hot dogs and hamburgers, salads and drinks, topped off with cake. And because the church itself has power, the evening will include a free movie screening in the auditorium, probably of the 2010 animated film "Megamind," which features the voices of Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Brad Pitt.

"We just thought that this might be a way to serve our community," says Adist, who has been in the area since 1986. "Instead of just complaining a lot, we thought we'd do something about it."

There's no charge for the party, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the church, which is located near Johns Hopkins' Homewood Campus, at 530 W. University Parkway. Adist has bought enough food for about 60 people, but if more show up, that's fine, too. "We'll just order some pizza," he says.

Guests don't even have to still be without power – although those who remain in the dark are welcome to share their lamentations with Adist, who can certainly understand. He's still without power at his home, just a few blocks away from the church.

"It's a little bit frustrating," he admits, "but it's not life-threatening or anything."
