Classical music: Peabody Opera Theatre

The most important operatic event of the fall season is a staging of Kurt Weill’s (pictured) “Street Scene” from 1947, an ambitious, absorbing slice of American life with lyrics by Langston Hughes. Peabody Opera Theatre’s production, directed by Kristine McIntyre, relocates the plot’s setting from New York City to Baltimore.
