Classical music: Baltimore Choral Arts Society

Instead of the traditional emphasis on fire and brimstone, Gabriel Faure took a comforting approach when composing his lyrical Requiem in the late 1800s; Maurice Durufle crafted an even kinder, gentler Requiem in the 1940s. Baltimore Choral Arts Society opens its 50th anniversary season with both masterworks, conducted by Tom Hall. 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at Kraushaar Auditorium, Goucher College, 1021 Dulaney Valley Road. $25 to $40. 410-523-7070. — TS
