Film: 'Taxi Driver'

Johns Hopkins University professor Thomas Dolby will host a Sept. 24 screening of Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver,” certainly one of the most distinctive (now there’s an adjective few would argue with) movies of the ’70s. Robert De Niro (pictured) stars as Travis Bickle, one of the most messed-up cabdrivers you’d never want to meet. The whole 1976 film captures New York at its seediest and most depressing. A nightmarish masterpiece, in the best sense of the word. 9 p.m. at the Charles Theatre, 1711 N. Charles St. $9.50. — Chris Kaltenbach
