Theater: 'An Inspector Calls'

J.B. Priestley (pictured) didn’t fashion a routine whodunit when he wrote "An Inspector Calls" in 1945; he created something deeper, more layered. This classic play, which wraps social commentary into a mystery about a young woman’s suicide, opens Everyman Theatre’s season with a cast that includes company veterans and guest artists. Now through Oct. 11 at Everyman Theatre, 315 W. Fayette St. $40 to $60. 410-752-2208. — Tim Smith
