Steinem, Plouffe among speakers for Hopkins Foreign Affairs Symposium

Feminist trailblazer Gloria Steinem, Obama campaign strategist David Plouffe and the creator of the popular "Humans of New York" blog are among the scheduled speakers at Johns Hopkins University's 2015 Foreign Affairs Symposium.

Steinem, the Ms. magazine founder and 2013 recipient of the Congressional Medal of Freedom, will speak Feb. 25. Plouffe, one of the chief strategists behind Barack Obama's 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns, will speak April 13. Brandon Stanton, the photographer behind the mega-successful "Humans of New York" blog, will speak March 25.

Other scheduled events in the annual symposium include an address from intelligence expert and former CIA officer Jack Devine on Feb. 11, a panel discussion of the extremist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on March 11 and a lecture by criminologist and dean of Franklin University's College of Health and Public Administration, Karen Miner-Romanoff, titled "FAS [Foreign Affairs Symposium] Unplugged: A Discussion of Crime and Punishment in 21st Century America," on April 7.

Admission to the symposium events is free, although reserved seats are available for $25. Except for the "FAS Unplugged" lecture, all are set to begin at 8 p.m. in Shriver Hall on the university's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St. "FAS Unplugged" is set for 8 p.m. in Mudd Hall.
