SAG Award nominations strong on Baltimore connections

Baltimore was well-represented when nominations for the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced Wednesday. Several actors from the Baltimore area, plus a few more who have worked in the area recently, were among the nominees.

In film, Columbia's own Edward Norton received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, for his work in "Birdman." Also nominated in that category, for playing the cantankerous father of lawyer Robert Downey Jr. in "The Judge," was the great Robert Duvall, who grew up in Annapolis and, as a boy, delivered newspapers there.

For her work on ABC's "Modern Family," Baltimore expatriate Julie Bowen was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. Among her competition: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, nominated for her work in the filmed-in-Baltimore HBO series "Veep."
