Edith Massey

Fells Point thrift shop operator Edith Massey may have become the unlikeliest movie star ever when John Waters chose her to play the "Egg Lady" in his 1972 "Pink Flamingos." But she became a star and reveled in every minute of her stardom until her death in 1984. Perhaps nothing explains Edie's enduring allure better than the interest generated when she lost her last tooth. Much to her delight, it was covered on television and in the national press. Only in Baltimore could a snaggle-toothed movie star capture a city's heart.
