D. Watkins, Wes Moore and Newbery Medal winner Kwame Alexander are among the big names scheduled to appear at the 20th Baltimore Book Festival in September.
The festival's schedule, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. daily from Sept. 25 to 27, and a list of 15 stages were first announced today via a press release. Events will take place on West Shore Park and Rash Field, along the 400 blocks of Light Street and Key Highway, in the Inner Harbor.
Alexander has garnered acclaim for his novel "The Crossover," which centers on two African-American brothers who drift apart as they get older. Baltimore native Moore is scheduled to discuss his most recent nonfiction book, "The Work." D. Watkins, another native Baltimorean, will be on hand to discuss his book "The Beastside: Living (and Dying) While Black in America."
Among the notable authors scheduled for demos, readings and panel discussions are journalist Lou Dobbs ("Border War"), Joanna Rakoff ("My Salinger Year") and Bryan Voltaggio ("Home).
New this year is a "curated, regionally sourced food and beverage program and the Ivy Bookshop as the festival's official bookseller," according to the release.
As usual, the festival features different themed stages, such as a Maryland romance writers stage and a children's stage. New this year are a health and wellness stage and a Inner Harbor stage, focusing on regional authors.
All told, the festival features more than 275 speakers, 180 self-published authors, more than 100 booksellers, cooking demos, poetry readings and live music.
