Artwork from Flaming Lips' frontman Wayne Coyne will go on display this fall at Baltimore's American Visionary Art Museum, as part of an exhibit titled "The Big Hope Show."

The exhibit, which debuts Oct. 3, will include a dozen works from Coyne, who co-founded The Flaming Lips in 1983. They include 10 drawings, a sculpture of a clear skull with a fetus inside (titled "Skull Fetus") and "King's Mouth," a large immersive installation that stretches from floor to ceiling.

This marks the first museum showing of Coyne's artwork, according to a press release from The Flaming Lips' label, Warner Bros. Records.

"I'm really excited about the spirit that Wayne brings to this show," AVAM founder Rebecca Hoffberger said. "He's very much the real deal, in terms of being a visionary."

The AVAM exhibit, which is scheduled to remain up through August 2016, will look at the power of hope. It will include pieces from several artists who survived personal traumas, and whose work is affected by that survival.

During a 1978 robbery attempt while he was working an Oklahoma City restaurant, Coyne had a loaded gun put to his head -- an incident that Coyne has said changed him and contributed to the life view reflected in his songs and stage performances. The incident, Coyne has said, also increased his appreciation for living.

In addition to Coyne's contributions, "The Big Hope Show" will feature work from photographer/documentarian (and frequent John Waters collaborator) Bob Adams, fabric artist Chris Roberts-Antieau and artist Margaret Munz-Losch.
