Stillpointe Theatre expands to include next door space on North Charles Street

Former Mercury Theater, now part of Stillpoiinte Theatre. (Kim Hairston / Baltimore Sun)

Stillpointe Theatre, one of the cool DIY troupes on the Baltimore scene, is spreading out. After opening new rented digs last year in Station North at 1825 N. Charles Street, the company this month rented the place next door, too.

That added venue at 1823 N. Charles was most recently known as the Mercury Theater, used by the Baltimore Improv Group, which has since taken up residence at Single Carrot Theatre. Before the improv team moved in, the 1823 address was home to the Strand Theatre Company, which just inaugurated a building it purchased on Harford Road. (Got all that?)

Back to Stillpointe. The company plans to put its productions this season into the former Mercury spot, which, when not being utilized by the company, will be available for rental to other arts groups.  The company's 1825 space will house smaller performances and functions, as well as a gallery.
