This just in from Center Stage, where the new musical "Marley," written and directed by company artistic director Kwame Kwei-Armah will be premiered May 13 (previews start next week): The cast will give a free concert of Bob Marley songs 3:30 p.m. Saturday (May 2) at the epicenter of the Freddie Gray protests, Pennsylvania and North avenues.
Here's the statement from the company:
"Although the cast and crew's focus is working on this production, it cannot be denied that Bob Marley's message of redemption, love and revolution resonates very deeply right now, and the cast wants to share his songs with the community. Center Stage's Community Programs and Education Department is organizing the concert as a way to offer healing to our community."
As part of the event, organizers plan to distribute free water, granola bars and fruit; offer art activities for people of all ages; and assist with remaining clean-up efforts in the area.
