Singer Eric Owens named distinguished visiting artist at Peabody

Eric Owens (Paul Sirochman)

Eric Owens, one of the finest singers before the public today, has been named a distinguished visiting artist at the Peabody Institute for 2016-2017.

The bass-baritone, a regular at the Metropolitan Opera and other major houses, will give master classes and coaching sessions during 10 days of campus visits.

Locally, Owens left a mighty mark in guest appearances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, singing Wagner in 2013 and Brahms two months ago. His several engagements with Washington National Opera include a vibrant performance in "Lost in the Stars" this season.

Next year at Peabody is shaping up to be extra beneficial for students. In addition to Owens, the conservatory recently named another stellar distinguished visiting artist — violinist Midori.
