The 2015 Castleton Festival, the perennially enticing venture in rural Virginia founded and directed until his death last year by eminent conductor Lorin Maazel, will offer free online streaming of this season's main events -- "weather and technological issues permitting," as the press release puts it.
Of greater interest than ever, thanks to a particularly momentous session of the Supreme Court, is the world premiere of the comic opera "Scalia/Ginsburg" by Baltimore-born, Gilman School alum Derrick Wang.
That work, inspired by the opera-loving, diametrically opposed justices, will share a a double bill with Ravel's "L'heure espagnole." The production, directed by Maria Tucci and conducted by Salvatore Percacciolo, will be streamed at 7 p.m. July 11.
