Local opera fans have been waiting quite a while now to learn whether there will be another Lyric Opera Baltimore season -- the company's one and only production for 2014-2015 was back in November and there has been no word since. Until now.
A save-the-date announcement being sent out from the Modell Perforrming Arts Center at the Lyric indicates a return of Lyric Opera Baltimore next spring with two works: Rossini's "The Barber of Seville," March 11 and 13, 2016; and Gounod's "Romeo et Juliette," May 13 and 15, 2016.
Details are expected soon on casting and other production information.
The 2015-2016 opera season at the Modell-Lyric will also include a return by Peabody Opera Theatre, this time with a staging of Kurt Weill's "Street Scene," Nov. 13 and 15.
A musical preview of the season is slated for performance at the Lyric on Oct. 25.
