There's serendipitous timing in the arrival of "Annie" at the Lyric Opera House on Friday.

This national touring production of the popular musical will open its short Baltimore visit with a performance on the exact 40th anniversary of the show's Broadway opening at the Alvin (now Neil Simon) Theatre on April 21, 1977. But wait -- there's more.

Directing the non-union tour cast is Martin Charnin, who wrote the lyrics for "Annie" and that 1977 staging. And note the choreographer for the tour: That's Liza Gennaro, daughter of Peter Gennaro, who won a Tony Award for his choreography of the original Broadway production that had nearly 2,400 performances and made a star out of the original Annie, Andrea McArdle.

The current tour features Tori Bates in the title role. Also in the cast is Gilgamesh Taggett as Oliver Warbucks, a role he performed vibrantly when this tour stopped at the Hippodrome in 2015.

Performances at the Lyric are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Call 410-547-7328, or go to modell-lyric.com.
