A night at the opera with 2 Chainz

UPDATE: This concert has been canceled. Refunds available at point of purchase, according to Ticketmaster. The joy of listening to Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz has much to do with the element of surprise. Since entering the hip-hop scene in the late '90s -- first as a member of the duo Playaz Circle and then later as a solo artist -- the MC born Tauheed Epps has become a fixture on radio and in the streets because many want to hear what audacious metaphor or grandiose boast the 36-year-old will utter next. Few of his lyrics are printable here, but this example from "Feds Watching" captures his affinity for absurd non sequiturs: "Sending flicks to my partners in the state pen / I just got some pants made out of snakeskin." Now imagine hearing it at the Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric later this month, when 2 Chainz brings his Street Opera Tour to town. What first seems like an odd pairing is actually rather fitting: Baltimore is weird, and so is 2 Chainz, so grab those snakeskin pants from the closet. 2 Chainz performs Sept. 27 at the Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric, 140 W. Mount Royal Ave. Tickets are $53.50-$125. Call 410-900-1150 or go to lyricoperahouse.com. -- Wesley Case
