Baltimore County school officials have selected the site for a new 700-seat elementary school in the Perry Hall area.
Officials said the property, north of East Joppa Road and south of the intersection of East Joppa Road and Chapel Hill Road, is already owned by the county and will be turned over to the school system.
The site is located near a park, and officials said the park will not be affected by the school construction.
County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and Superintendent Dallas Dance said the new school is part of the overall strategy to address the county's population trends and projections that show continued school enrollment growth. Those projections show the need for the new school in the northeast, according to school officials.
Officials did not release information about projected construction costs or a timeline, but said the process for determining school boundaries will start at least one year before the opening of the school.
Baltimore County has opened two schools in the last two years: Mays Chapel Elementary in August 2014 and Lyons Mill Elementary in August of this year
