Morgan, Coppin, Loyola, Washington College hold commencement ceremonies Saturday

Several local universities held commencement ceremonies on Saturday.

More than 800 undergraduate and graduate Morgan State University students received degrees at the school's 140th commencement. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, a Baltimore native, spoke at Talmadge Hill Field House.

Loyola University Maryland conferred degrees on 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students during its 164th Commencement. Bestselling author Wes Moore spoke at the ceremony at the Royal Farms Arena downtown.

Coppin State University held its commencement ceremony for undergraduates at the school's Physical Education Complex on Saturday. David J. Johns, the executive director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, gave the commencement address.

McDaniel College in Westminster conferred degrees on 679 undergraduate and graduate students at its 146th Commencement. James Bell, founder and executive director of the W. Haywood Burns Institute in Oakland, Calif., delivered the commencement speech at the Gill Center.

Washington College in Chestertown was scheduled to hold its 233rd Commencement. David M. Rubenstein, co-founder and co-chief executive of the Carlyle Group, was to speak.
