The Community College of Baltimore County will ceremonially flip the switch Thursday on its system of 16,500 solar panels on its three main campuses.
The campuses in Catonsville, Dundalk and Essex now are home to carports with solar panels on top that cover 1,400 parking spaces combined.
The ceremony will take place at the Dundalk campus.
All told, the solar carports are expected to generate 6.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year.
The solar carports were built by Constellation Energy, which will own and operate the system. CCBC signed a 20-year agreement to buy electricity from the system, which is expected save the college $4 million on its electric bills over the life of the agreement.
