City teacher placed on leave after video surfaces of fight with student

A city teacher has been placed on administrative leave after a video surfaced of her fighting with a student at a West Baltimore high school Friday, school officials said Wednesday.

The fight between the female teacher and student occurred at Carver Vocational-Technical High, according to city school officials. The teacher and student got into a verbal exchange that escalated into a physical fight, which was captured on video.

The teacher, who was not identified, was treated for minor injuries and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of external and internal investigations, school officials said. The student, a minor, was charged with assault and released to a parent, officials said.

"Baltimore City Public Schools takes extremely seriously any incident that disrupts the learning environment and threatens the safety and well-being of students, staff, or any member of a school community," city school officials in a statement.
