Famed science educator and television personality Bill Nye will deliver Goucher College’s spring commencement address, the school announced Friday.
The man popularly known as Bill Nye the Science Guy will speak to graduates during a May 24 ceremony on the campus’ Margaret M. Winslow Great Lawn.
“With his wit and wisdom, Bill Nye has shared the wonders of space and engineering and made learning fun for generations of students,” Bryan Coker, Goucher’s vice president and dean of students, said in a statement.
Nye previously spoke at Goucher’s commencement in 1999, and received an honorary doctor of letters degree.
His mother was a Goucher alumna. Jacqueline Jenkins-Nye was one of the college’s “code girls,” meaning she worked with the Navy to decode complex German Enigma code machines during World War II.
“His insights and relevance have only grown since he last shared his unique perspective with our graduates,” Coker said. “We welcome him back to campus and to the college where his mother holds a distinctive place in history.”
