Students at Loyola University Maryland are among several campuses across the nation drawing attention to on-campus sexual assault via an online campaign that encourages intervention and prevention.
Chris Singlemann, director of public relations for Loyola's Student Government Association, said the school has joined in the White House-sponsored "It's On Us" awareness campaign, which encourages students to play more significant roles in addressing on-campus sexual assault.
"We are trying to raise awareness for its presence on college campuses and encouraging fellow students to know when to step in and prevent incidents as well as support the victims," Singlemann said. He added that later this month students will distribute cards that include information about whom to call in the event of an assault.
Launched by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden last month, the "It's On Us" website requests students pledge to take active roles in keeping women and men safe from sexual assualt.
