The chair of the Baltimore city school board will step down at the end of the month to run a local charter school.
Shanaysha Sauls, who was appointed to the school board in 2010 and served as its chairwoman since 2013, will resign her post on June 30 to serve as the operator of the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women.
Sauls, whose term on the board would have ended next June, confirmed her resignation Monday.
"Right now I'm focused on the work of the district and finishing out the transition year," Sauls said in an interview. "But I am honored and look forward to the opportunity to work with a school community that has a strong vision for transforming the lives of talented young women."
