Notre Dame will inaugurate president Marylou Yam in a ceremony Friday at the Le Clerc Auditorium. Lam is the 14th president in the school’s history.
Lam came to Notre Dame as having served as the first woman Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Business Administration at Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, N.J. She was named president last July.
School officials said under Yam's leadership, Notre Dame has been granted non-governmental organization status by the United Nations' Department of Public Information. Officials said it is the first Maryland university to receive the designation.
The ceremony at Kraushaar Auditorium at 2 p.m. culminates the appointment of a mentor who was named president last July. Bowen had served as dean of Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts and is noted for his book "Teaching Naked: How Moving Technology Out of Your College Classroom Will Improve Student Learning."
Goucher officials have credited Bowen with expanding the college’s national and international reputation with initiatives such as the Goucher Video Application.
